Embellished Tattoos

Examining the body in part or whole is characteristic of my work. “Embellished Tattoos” continues this exploration.

By playing with the meaning of embellishment and utilizing the tattoo I am looking at the symbolism of this permanent mark making.

To that end I have taken photos of the tattoos of five women and paired them with photos that I have taken of nature; adding colour and imagery with digital manipulation and embroidery.

The significance of each tattoo was the starting point. Details were added describing aspects of the lives of these women, embellishing the meaning of the imagery.
